The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,788 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,788 managers reported a position, together holding 1.05bn shares, or 85.9% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Vanguard Group Inc (CIK 0000102909) filed 13F-NT (notice, no holdings) for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, consistent with the January 2026 reorganisation of Vanguard's 13F filing structure. Per the brief, Vanguard is represented as a single substituted row summing the two successor entities that filed 13F-HR for the quarter (Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC) rather than listed multiple times.
- Excluded from holdings: Discovery Producer Services, LLC. Williams held a 60 percent equity-method interest in Discovery but acquired the remaining 40 percent in August 2024, making it a wholly owned, consolidated subsidiary. Also excluded: Cardinal Gas Services, L.L.C. (66 percent interest) and Ohio Valley Midstream LLC / Northeast JV (65 percent interest), both consolidated variable interest entities where Williams is the primary beneficiary, meaning Williams controls and fully consolidates them rather than holding a minority equity-method stake; these are Williams' own operating subsidiaries with outside minority partners, not stakes Williams holds in someone else's company. MountainWest Pipelines Holding LLC is likewise a wholly consolidated Williams subsidiary. None of these appear in holdings per the brief's exclusion of wholly owned/consolidated operating subsidiaries.
- Excluded from holdings: Brazos Permian II, LLC. Williams sold this equity-method investment in June 2026 for $143 million total consideration, receiving 'publicly traded limited partner units of the acquirer' as most of the consideration. The FY2025 10-Q/10-K do not name the acquirer or size the resulting security position in shares or dollars, so it is not recorded; see unknowns.
- Excluded from holdings: the July 2026 Power Innovation joint venture (Socrates, Apollo, Aquila, Socrates the Younger, Neo). Williams sold a 49 percent NONcontrolling interest in these five power projects to an outside investor for $5.34 billion of committed capital; this is equity Williams sold to someone else in Williams' own projects, not a stake Williams holds in another company, so it is not a holding under this brief.
- Un-split combined balances not assigned to a named holding: the FY2025 10-K equity-method investments table includes an 'Other Various' line of $175 million (2025) covering unnamed smaller investments, and the Q2 2026 10-Q states total 'Investments' on the balance sheet of $4,515 million versus the FY2025 total of $4,518 million from the named-investee table below; neither the $175 million 'Other' line nor the small quarter-over-quarter movement is broken out by name, so no holding is sized from them.
- Cross-check: the FY2025 10-K equity-method investments table (Note 8, values in millions) sums exactly to the reported $4,518 million total: Appalachia Midstream Investments $2,737 (~66% avg) + OPPL $376 (50%) + Blue Racer $341 (50%) + Cogentrix $292 + Louisiana LNG $253 (10%) + Gulfstream $185 (50%) + Laurel Mountain $159 (69%) + Other Various $175. This project's holdings use these FY2025 figures except Cogentrix and Louisiana LNG, which the Q2 2026 10-Q separately restates at $289 million each.
- Market capitalisation of $91.98 billion and the $73.04 share price are stockanalysis.com's figures as of 14 August 2026 (previous close). Cross-check: 1,223,167,472 shares x $73.04 implies approximately $89.3 billion, about 3 percent below the reported $91.98 billion market cap, consistent with a data-provider share count that differs slightly from the 10-Q cover page count used here (or intraday timing).
- Register reconciliation: the 2026 proxy's beneficial-ownership footnotes describe Vanguard's, BlackRock's and State Street's most recent 13F/13G voting-power detail (13F-HR filings dated Jan-Feb 2026, an earlier quarter than the Q2 2026 13F-HR data used in the register) but do not restate their share counts as percentages of the class, so no separate 13G cross-check row is added for them.
- Insider rows use the Q2 2026 10-Q's 1,223,167,472 shares-outstanding denominator even though the proxy's beneficial-ownership table is dated 24 Feb 2026, an earlier and likely slightly different share count; the proxy itself states all individual and group insider ownership is under 1% of the class regardless of exact denominator, so this does not change the characterisation.
- Self-gate check: summing the eight non-aggregate, non-insider register rows (Vanguard 123,361,892 + BlackRock 115,500,312 + State Street 72,015,506 + Bank of America 44,667,824 + Wellington 33,097,208 + Morgan Stanley 31,813,505 + Geode 29,911,265 + JPMorgan 21,379,796) gives 471,747,308 shares against 1,223,167,472 shares outstanding, or 38.57%, within the expected 15 to 55 percent range.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The name and size (shares or dollar value) of the publicly traded limited-partner-unit position Williams received as partial consideration for the June 2026 sale of its Brazos Permian II equity-method investment. The Q2 2026 10-Q states only that the units are Level 1, remeasured at fair value, and that Williams is required to hold them for a period, without naming the acquirer or the unit count. Looked in Note 3 (Divestitures) of the Q2 2026 10-Q.
- Whether Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, or Vanguard Global Advisers) also hold WMB shares; not checked individually within the time budget, so the true Vanguard aggregate may be somewhat higher than 123,361,892 shares.
- The composition of the FY2025 10-K's $175 million 'Other Various' equity-method investment line; no individual investee is named for it in either the FY2025 10-K or the Q2 2026 10-Q.
- Whether any Schedule 13D or 13G has been filed on WMB common stock in 2026; not separately checked against the EDGAR full-text search system within the time budget. The register instead relies on Q2 2026 13F-HR filings and the 2026 proxy's summary of institutional holders.
- Holders ranked below JPMorgan/Wellington on institutional-ownership aggregators (for example Deutsche Bank, Invesco, Blackstone, T. Rowe Price, Northern Trust, Clearbridge, per the project's Q1-2026 WMB 13F register) were not individually verified against their own Q2 2026 13F-HR filings, since eight institutional holders plus two proxy-sourced insider rows satisfy the brief's top 8 to 12 requirement.
