The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,559 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,559 managers reported a position, together holding 331.9m shares, or 89.8% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Thermo Fisher does not file Form 13F. Its complete EDGAR filing history (submissions JSON for CIK 0000097745, checked 17 August 2026) contains zero filings of any 13F-* form type, consistent with it not acting as an institutional investment manager.
- Holdings is empty and that is the sourced finding, not a gap. The FY2025 Form 10-K (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 26 February 2026) was searched in full for 'equity method', 'equity investment', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative', 'unrealized gain', 'strategic investment' and 'joint venture'. It discloses only combined balances, never a single named investee: equity method investments carried at $178 million (2025) versus $357 million (2024); equity investments without readily determinable fair value and not NAV-eligible (cost less impairment) carried at $196 million (2025) versus $41 million (2024); investments measured at net asset value carried at $64 million (2025) versus $40 million (2024). The 10-K also states 'Equity in earnings/losses of unconsolidated entities was impacted by an $88 million impairment of an equity method investment in 2024' without naming the investee. None of these combined balances is split by counterparty anywhere in the filing, so per the brief no individual holding is recorded from them.
- The most recent Form 10-Q (quarter ended 27 June 2026, filed 31 July 2026) was also searched for the same terms and contains none of them: the condensed quarterly notes do not break out equity-method or non-marketable equity investments at all. The FY2025 10-K remains the only available disclosure of the combined balances above.
- Thermo Fisher's growth model is overwhelmingly outright acquisition of wholly owned operating businesses (for example a $9.1 billion agreement to acquire Clario disclosed around the Q2 FY2026 10-Q, and the earlier PPD and Olink acquisitions), which the brief excludes. No minority equity stake in another company, public or private, was found anywhere in the FY2025 10-K, the Q2 FY2026 10-Q, or general news search.
- Vanguard reorganization affects the register's comparability. On 12 January 2026 The Vanguard Group underwent an internal realignment (per SEC Release No. 34-39538) under which certain subsidiaries and business divisions began reporting beneficial ownership separately (disaggregated) rather than as part of The Vanguard Group, Inc. Consistent with this, CIK 0000102909 filed a Schedule 13G/A on 27 March 2026 showing 0 shares and 0 percent, and filed Form 13F-NT (a notice, not a holdings report) for the quarters ended 31 March 2026 and 30 June 2026. The register therefore uses Vanguard's last full 13F-HR, for the quarter ended 31 December 2025 (34,133,702 shares), predating the reorganization. One of the resulting disaggregated entities, Vanguard Capital Management LLC (CIK 0002100119), separately filed a Schedule 13G on 30 April 2026 showing 28,008,822 shares (7.53 percent) as of 31 March 2026, but its own text states this excludes other disaggregated Vanguard subsidiaries, so it is a partial figure, not a replacement Vanguard-family total, and is not used as the register row.
- BlackRock disagreement, recorded rather than resolved. The register uses BlackRock, Inc.'s Form 13F-HR for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (30,919,632 shares). Thermo Fisher's 2026 proxy statement (filed 7 April 2026) instead reports BlackRock at 28,329,861 shares and 7.62 percent, but that figure is explicitly sourced in the proxy to a Schedule 13G/A filed 8 February 2024, over two years stale against the 13F.
- The 2026 proxy statement's beneficial ownership table (Vanguard and BlackRock rows, and the individual insider rows) is dated 28 February 2026; the exact shares-outstanding denominator used to derive its own percentages is not separately disclosed. This research approximates that denominator using the FY2025 10-K cover-page count of 371,484,244 shares as of 31 January 2026, the closest disclosed share count to 28 February 2026. Applying it reproduces the proxy's own stated Vanguard percentage (8.87 percent) closely (32,977,462 / 371,484,244 = 8.88 percent), supporting the approximation.
- Thermo Fisher has a single class of common stock, one vote per share. There is no dual-class structure and no founder or family control block: CEO Marc Casper's 449,661 shares are 0.12 percent of the company, and all 19 current directors and executive officers as a group hold only 0.33 percent, both individually marked 'less than one percent' in the proxy's own table.
- Market capitalisation of $217.52 billion is the figure published by stockanalysis.com as of 14 August 2026 (close price $588.29). Cross-check: 369,747,286 shares outstanding (27 June 2026 10-Q cover) times $588.29 implies about $217.5 billion, consistent.
- All 30 June 2026 13F rows are the managers' own reported market values at that date; the implied per-share price across State Street, Geode and BlackRock clusters around $500 to $502, consistent with a single quarter-end mark. The Vanguard row (31 December 2025) implies about $579 per share, a different, earlier quarter, which is expected and not an error.
- Percentages in the register are computed by this research against a stated share count, not taken from the 13F or proxy filings themselves (except where noted as the proxy's own stated percentage for Vanguard and BlackRock).
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Per-investee breakdown of the FY2025 10-K's combined equity-investment balances ($178 million equity-method, $196 million non-marketable/cost-method, $64 million NAV-measured at 31 December 2025). The 10-K gives no supporting note naming any individual investee, so no single holding can be sized from these totals.
- The identity of the investee behind the $88 million equity-method impairment recorded in 2024, per the FY2025 10-K. Not named in the filing.
- The current combined Vanguard-family stake in Thermo Fisher following the 12 January 2026 internal realignment. Vanguard's CIK 0000102909 now files 13F-NT rather than 13F-HR, and only one of the resulting disaggregated reporting entities (Vanguard Capital Management LLC, 28,008,822 shares / 7.53 percent as of 31 March 2026) was identified within the time budget; other disaggregated Vanguard subsidiaries or business divisions were not located.
- Whether Thermo Fisher's Q3 FY2026 10-Q (quarter ending on or about 26 September 2026) contains any new equity-investment disclosure. Not yet filed as of 17 August 2026, per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000097745 (most recent 10-Q filed 31 July 2026 covers the quarter ended 27 June 2026).
- Sovereign or strategic holders below the top institutional tier (for example Norges Bank, which typically does not file Form 13F) were not individually checked within the time budget.
