The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,074 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,074 managers reported a position, together holding 254.1m shares, or 86.2% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- S&P Global has a single class of common stock, 1 dollar par value, one vote per share. There is no dual-class structure and no founder or family control block. Insiders as a group hold only 100,468 shares, about 0.033 percent of shares outstanding, per the 2026 proxy: this is a widely held large-cap register, not a founder-controlled company.
- S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC (the Indices segment) is a joint venture in which S&P Global holds a 73 percent majority and CME Group and CME Group Index Services LLC hold the remaining 27 percent as minority partners. S&P Global fully consolidates the venture: revenue, costs and results all appear in S&P Global's consolidated statements, and CME's 27 percent share is carried on the balance sheet as a redeemable noncontrolling interest (5,024,000,000 dollars at 30 June 2026, 4,914,000,000 dollars at 31 December 2025), not as an equity investment. That redeemable noncontrolling interest belongs to CME, not to S&P Global, and is deliberately not recorded in holdings: recording it would invert the graph.
- The Mobility separation is COMPLETE, not pending. Per the Q2 FY2026 Form 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 28 July 2026), the separation of Mobility Global Inc. from S&P Global became effective at 12:01 a.m. New York time on 1 July 2026, achieved through S&P Global's distribution of 100 percent of Mobility Global common stock to S&P Global shareholders (one Mobility Global share for every S&P Global share held at the close of business on the 15 June 2026 record date). S&P Global retains 0 percent of Mobility Global. No holding is recorded for Mobility Global because there is nothing left to record: this is a full spin-off, not a minority retained stake.
- OSTTRA, a 50/50 post-trade services joint venture with CME Group accounted for under the equity method, was sold by S&P Global and CME Group on 10 October 2025 per the FY2025 Form 10-K and the Q2 FY2026 Form 10-Q. It is not a current holding and is not recorded.
- 'Equity investments in unconsolidated subsidiaries' is a single combined balance sheet line: 613,000,000 dollars as of 30 June 2026 (Q2 FY2026 10-Q) and 603,000,000 dollars as of 31 December 2025 (FY2025 10-K), down from 1,774,000,000 dollars at 31 December 2024 (the decline consistent with the OSTTRA sale). Neither filing breaks this figure out by counterparty or investee name, so per the research brief this combined figure sizes none of the underlying investees individually and no holding is recorded from it.
- Register denominators differ by source and are recorded explicitly per row rather than normalized to one figure: 294,800,000 (Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover, 24 July 2026, excludes 7.2 million ESOP trust shares), 298,800,000 (FY2025 10-K cover, 30 January 2026, same exclusion), and 303,462,990 (2026 proxy statement, 2 March 2026, includes the 7,157,285 ESOP trust shares). company.shares_outstanding uses the most recent 10-Q cover figure, 294,800,000.
- No Schedule 13D or 13G/A has been filed on S&P Global common stock since 13 February 2024 (Vanguard) and 26 January 2024 (BlackRock), per the EDGAR filing index for CIK 0000064040 and the 2026 proxy's own citations to those stale filings. That removes the usual independent cross-check on the largest holders' current share counts, which is why the register here relies on each manager's own Form 13F-HR instead.
- market_cap_usd is computed, not a filed figure: 294,800,000 shares outstanding (Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover) multiplied by a regular market close price of 418.80 dollars on 14 August 2026 (Yahoo Finance), giving approximately 123.5 billion dollars. No single fetched page stated the market cap directly as a dollar figure.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether S&P Global retains any equity, warrant, or other financial interest in Mobility Global beyond the clean 100 percent share distribution. Searched the Separation paragraphs of the Q2 FY2026 10-Q (debt, credit facility and business description sections) and found only a full distribution with no retained-interest language; did not exhaustively search every related-party or transition-services-agreement disclosure that might reference a residual financial arrangement.
- Names and individual ownership stakes behind the 613,000,000 dollar 'Equity investments in unconsolidated subsidiaries' combined balance as of 30 June 2026. The 10-Q and 10-K give the combined figure only; no note or MD&A passage breaks it out by counterparty.
- S&P Global's Q3 FY2026 Form 10-Q (covering the quarter ending on or about 30 September 2026) was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000064040. Any equity activity in that quarter, including possible effects of the completed Mobility separation on the balance sheet, is not yet visible.
- Precise percentage-of-company figures for Martina Cheung, Eric Aboaf and the directors/officers group: the proxy's own beneficial ownership table marks all three rows with footnote (4), 'less than 1 percent,' rather than a precise number. The pct_of_company values recorded here are this research's own division of the disclosed share counts by the proxy's disclosed denominator (303,462,990), not a percentage copied from the filing.
- Capital Group, T. Rowe Price and Norges Bank (Norway's sovereign wealth fund) positions were not pursued within the time budget; the brief's named manager list (Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street, Geode, FMR, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan) was treated as sufficient for the top-holder layer alongside the proxy.
