The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 3,010 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
3,010 managers reported a position, together holding 1.77bn shares, or 84.7% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- NEE has an approximately 52.4-52.5% noncontrolling economic interest in XPLR Infrastructure, LP (formerly NextEra Energy Partners, LP, ticker changed from NEP to XIFR in January 2025), held primarily through NEE's limited partner interest in XPLR Infrastructure Operating Partners, LP (XPLR OpCo). NEE explicitly accounts for this interest as an EQUITY METHOD INVESTMENT, not consolidation: XPLR is a separate SEC registrant that consolidates its own OpCo and reports NEE's interest as a noncontrolling interest ('NEE Equity's noncontrolling interest') within XPLR's own equity, while NEE reports its side of the relationship as an equity-method investee. This is the opposite of Florida Power & Light, which NEE wholly owns and consolidates.
- NEE's XPLR interest is sized and denominated as a PERCENTAGE ECONOMIC INTEREST in XPLR (via XPLR OpCo units), not as a share or common-unit count. XPLR Infrastructure, LP's own Form 10-Q for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 states 94,272,795 XPLR common units outstanding at that date; this figure is NOT NEE's holding and is included in notes only so a reader does not conflate XPLR's total public float with NEE's OpCo-level interest, which are measured on different instruments.
- During NEE's Q1 2025 financial statements, NEE's investment in XPLR was determined to be other-than-temporarily impaired following a sharp decline in XPLR's common unit trading price (observed at $9.50 on 31 March 2025) after XPLR announced a strategic repositioning, including suspension of its common unit distribution. This drove the FY2025 10-K carrying value of approximately $1.0 billion down from approximately $1.8 billion at 31 December 2024; the six months ended 30 June 2026 in the Q2 2026 10-Q reflect 'the absence of an impairment charge related to the investment in XPLR recorded in 2025 of approximately $0.7 billion ($0.5 billion after tax).'
- NEE's condensed consolidated balance sheet carries a single combined line, 'Investment in equity method investees': $5,971 million at 30 June 2026 and $5,528 million at 31 December 2025. This balance covers XPLR plus other unnamed equity-method investees (for example the transmission joint venture recorded in holdings, and other joint ventures referenced in Note 7 guarantees). Per the brief's instruction, this combined balance is NOT distributed to any single investee; only the two figures separately and explicitly disclosed by name in the filings (XPLR's ~$1.0 billion at 31 Dec 2025, and the transmission joint venture's ~$287 million at its March 2026 formation) are recorded as sized holdings here.
- NEE's Q2 2026 10-Q separately discloses 'NEE's investment in these entities totaled approximately $2,500 million and $2,525 million as of June 30, 2026 and December 31, 2025, respectively' for a set of unconsolidated variable interest entities (NEE is not the primary beneficiary of these VIEs). The filing text fetched does not name the individual entities in this set, so this combined figure is not assigned to any named holding; it is recorded in unknowns.
- Florida Power & Light (FPL) is a wholly owned subsidiary registrant that co-files NEE's 10-K/10-Q as a combined report. It is excluded from holdings per the brief (wholly owned operating subsidiary).
- NEE's nuclear decommissioning trust funds ('special use funds' on the balance sheet, $11,678 million at 30 June 2026) are deliberately excluded from holdings as restricted, regulator-mandated funds rather than strategic stakes, per the brief. A Schedule 13D/A (Amendment No. 8, filed 25 November 2024) shows Florida Power & Light as reporting person on KKR FS Income Trust common stock, 3,483,107 shares, 14.1% of that class. This filing's short cover-page-only text did not state the purpose of the holding, but the reporting entity (Florida Power & Light, a regulated utility with no independent strategic-investment mandate), the private BDC nature of KKR FS Income Trust, and the pattern of near-monthly 13D/A amendments are all consistent with routine nuclear decommissioning trust or pension trust portfolio rebalancing rather than a strategic stake, so it is excluded here as a judgment call rather than treated as a sized holding.
- The Vanguard Group's register row uses its own Form 13F-HR for the quarter ended 31 December 2025 (filed 29 January 2026), the most recent Vanguard 13F-HR available. Vanguard filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings) under this CIK for the quarters ended 31 March 2026 and 30 June 2026, so no fresher Vanguard share count is available from this CIK; its Q1/Q2 2026 holdings are reported by other Vanguard reporting-manager entities not checked in this task.
- 13F share and value figures include only lines where NEE's own titleOfClass contains 'COM' (common stock, CUSIP 65339F101). Rows for NextEra Energy Capital Holdings Inc. notes/bonds, NEE corporate units, and NEE options/preferred-convertible lines appearing in the same managers' information tables were excluded from the register as debt or derivative positions, not common equity.
- Register coverage: the seven 13F rows above sum to 780,906,867 shares, approximately 37.4% of the 2,085,803,189 shares outstanding used throughout this file.
- The proxy's own 5%-owner table (as of 23 March 2026) reports Vanguard, BlackRock and State Street at 9.93%, 7.26% and 5.58% respectively, sourced to those managers' Schedule 13G/A filings (Vanguard's dated well before this proxy; the proxy notes a further 13G/A filed 27 March 2026 reporting Vanguard at 0 shares of common stock as of 13 March 2026, reflecting a reporting reorganisation rather than a sale). These 13G-based figures are older and lower-fidelity than the 13F figures used in the register above, so the register uses each manager's own 13F-HR instead and this proxy table is not separately reproduced as rows to avoid duplicate, conflicting entries for the same three holders.
- NEE has a single class of common stock, $0.01 par value; no dual-class structure and no founder control block. John W. Ketchum, Chairman/President/CEO, beneficially owns approximately 0.07% of the company; the full board and executive officer group owns less than 1% in total per the proxy's own statement.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The exact number of XPLR OpCo units (or any other unit/share count) corresponding to NEE's approximately 52.4-52.5% economic interest in XPLR. Searched NEE's FY2025 10-K and Q2 2026 10-Q related-party notes (Note 8 and Note 6 respectively) in full; both disclose only the percentage and, in the 10-K, a combined dollar carrying value. XPLR Infrastructure, LP's own Q2 2026 10-Q was also checked for an 'OpCo units held by NEE' style disclosure and none was found in the text searched.
- The identity of the other party/parties in the transmission joint venture in which NEE retained an approximately 50% interest after the March 2026 sale. NEE's Q2 2026 10-Q (Note 11, Disposal of a Business) does not name the buyer or co-venturer in the text fetched.
- The breakdown of the $2,500 million ($2,525 million at 31 Dec 2025) 'investment in these entities' figure for NEE's unconsolidated, non-primary-beneficiary VIEs, referenced in the Q2 2026 10-Q guarantees note. The individual entities were not named in the text searched.
- The purpose and current status of Florida Power & Light's Schedule 13D position in KKR FS Income Trust (3,483,107 shares, 14.1% of class, per Amendment No. 8 filed 25 November 2024, the most recent 13D/A found for NEE's CIK). Presumed to be nuclear decommissioning or pension trust portfolio activity and excluded from holdings on that basis, but the short cover-page-only amendment text did not state the purpose explicitly, and no later amendment (2025 or 2026) was checked.
- NEE's exact shares outstanding as of the proxy record date, 23 March 2026 (used as the denominator in the proxy's own beneficial ownership tables). Not found in the proxy text searched; the insider register rows above instead use the 30 June 2026 10-Q cover-page count (2,085,803,189) as an approximation, which is dated about three months after the proxy record date.
- Any Schedule 13D or 13G filed by a third party (not NEE or FPL) directly on NEE common stock more recently than the stale 13G/A citations in the 2026 proxy (the most recent being Vanguard's 27 March 2026 13G/A reporting 0 shares, reflecting reorganised reporting rather than a real position). A full-text EDGAR search for fresh 13D/13G filers on NEE stock itself was not performed beyond the proxy's own citations and the 13D/A index check, which surfaced only the FPL-as-filer KKR FS Income Trust filing (a holding by NEE, not a filing about NEE).
