The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 3,566 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
3,566 managers reported a position, together holding 3.32bn shares, or 79.8% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Netflix does not file Form 13F. Its complete EDGAR filing history for CIK 0001065280 (submissions JSON, checked 17 August 2026, forms back through 2023) contains no 13F-HR or 13F-NT of any vintage, consistent with Netflix not acting as an institutional investment manager.
- Netflix executed a 10-for-1 forward stock split effective November 2025. shares_outstanding (4,163,939,676) is taken from the cover page of the Q2 FY2026 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 17 July 2026) and is on a POST-split basis. The FY2025 10-K cover (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 23 January 2026) gives 4,222,162,150 shares, also post-split, and is used as the denominator for the one register row (Vanguard) dated before 30 June 2026.
- The 2026 DEF 14A's 'Security Ownership' table for The Vanguard Group, BlackRock and FMR is stale and NOT used for those three rows: it sources Vanguard and FMR to a Schedule 13G/A information as of 29 December 2023 and BlackRock to a Schedule 13G/A as of 31 December 2023, both more than a year before the November 2025 split and therefore on a pre-split share-count basis (would misstate by roughly 10x if read as post-split). The proxy further states that, per a Schedule 13G/A Vanguard filed 27 March 2026, Vanguard now reports 0.0 percent as of 13 March 2026 following an internal reorganisation that disaggregated its beneficial ownership across separate filers. For all three of Vanguard, BlackRock and FMR the register instead uses each manager's own Form 13F-HR filed under its own CIK, which is current and unambiguously post-split.
- Vanguard filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings) rather than 13F-HR for the quarters ended 31 March 2026 and 30 June 2026 under CIK 0000102909, so its most recent 13F-HR with Netflix holdings is for the quarter ended 31 December 2025 (filed 29 January 2026). All other register rows use the quarter ended 30 June 2026.
- Insider share counts and the 'all directors and executive officers as a group' figure are all read from the single 2026 proxy beneficial-ownership table (Record Date 6 April 2026, 4,210,798,528 shares outstanding and entitled to vote) so they are internally consistent and on one post-split basis.
- Reed Hastings (Netflix's founder, Chairman of the Board, 0.897 percent) has informed the company he will not stand for re-election at the 2026 annual meeting, per the proxy's 'Year in Review' section. He transitioned from Executive Chairman to a non-executive Chairman role effective 17 April 2025. Netflix has a single class of common stock with one vote per share, so there is no separate founder voting-control block: Hastings' voting power equals his economic stake.
- Holdings is empty and that is the sourced finding, not a gap. The Q2 FY2026 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 17 July 2026) and the FY2025 10-K (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 23 January 2026) were both searched in full for 'equity investment', 'equity method', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative' and 'cost method': none of these phrases appear in either filing. There is no equity-investments line item on the balance sheet; 'Other non-current assets' of $7,794 million (per the FY2025 10-K) is not broken out by holding in the text of either filing and includes items such as tax-incentive receivables, operating-lease right-of-use assets and derivative assets, none of which is an equity stake in another company. Netflix's content library (content assets, net, $32,778 million per the FY2025 10-K) is excluded per the brief, it is not an equity stake.
- The Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) transaction did not result in any Netflix equity holding. Netflix signed a definitive merger agreement with WBD on 4 December 2025 to acquire WBD's streaming and studios businesses (amended 19 January 2026), but WBD terminated that agreement on 27 February 2026 to instead merge with Paramount Skydance Corporation (PSKY). PSKY, on WBD's behalf, paid Netflix a $2.8 billion cash termination fee under the terminated agreement's terms. This was a terminated acquisition attempt with a cash payout received, not an equity stake, so no holding is recorded for WBD or PSKY. Source: the Q2 FY2026 10-Q text quoted above.
- Market capitalisation ($325.45 billion, 14 August 2026) is an aggregator figure (stockanalysis.com), not a filed number, and is used only for context; it is not relied on for any percentage calculation in this file, all of which use share counts from SEC filings.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether Netflix holds any non-marketable or measurement-alternative equity stakes in private companies (for example content-technology or production partners). Searched the Q2 FY2026 10-Q and FY2025 10-K full text for 'equity investment', 'equity method', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative' and 'cost method'; none found. If such a position exists it is below the disclosure threshold or embedded undisclosed within 'Other non-current assets' ($7,794 million, FY2025 10-K), which is not broken out by counterparty in either filing.
- Capital Research/Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, and Norges Bank positions were not sourced within the time budget. Given the pattern found for Broadcom (a comparable large-cap where these three could not be matched to correct current 13F-HR filer CIKs), they were not attempted here; a future pass should identify the correct current filer CIKs.
- No Schedule 13D or 13G/A filed on Netflix common stock since the ones referenced in the stale 2026 proxy table (all dated 2023 to 2024, pre-split, and superseded for Vanguard by its March 2026 13G/A) was independently verified via EDGAR full-text search in this task; only the proxy's own citations and the 13F-HR filings were checked.
- The Q3 FY2026 10-Q, covering the quarter ending on or about 30 September 2026, was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0001065280. Any equity position or the WBD termination fee's income-statement treatment for that quarter is not yet visible.
- Precise post-split share counts for individual named executive officers other than Sarandos, Peters and Neumann (i.e. the other 12 directors/officers in the 'group of 16') were read from the proxy table but are not broken out as separate register rows here for brevity; their sum (4,506,737 shares) is captured only in the aggregate row's method_note.
