The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 3,521 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
3,521 managers reported a position, together holding 526.9m shares, or 74.5% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- McDonald's Corporation does not file Form 13F. Its complete EDGAR filing history (submissions JSON for CIK 0000063908, checked 17 August 2026) contains no 13F-HR or 13F-NT filings, consistent with it not acting as an institutional investment manager.
- Holdings are limited to two named equity-method investments disclosed in the Q2 FY2026 Form 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 7 August 2026) equity method investments footnote: a 48% stake in Grand Foods Holding (China, Hong Kong, Macau) and a 35% stake in McDonald's Japan Holdings Co., Ltd. The 10-Q explicitly names these as the Company's 'primary' equity method investments, implying smaller unnamed ones exist too.
- The balance sheet line 'Investments in affiliates' totals $2,896 million as of 30 June 2026. The two named holdings sum to $2,134m (Grand Foods carrying amount) + $658m (Japan Holdings carrying amount) = $2,792m, leaving roughly $104 million of the balance sheet total attributable to other, unnamed equity method investees (for example other developmental licensee or affiliate markets referenced in the 10-Q as 'a limited number of foreign markets'). That residual is not sized or attributed to any single entity here, per the brief's warning against distributing a combined balance across unnamed members.
- For McDonald's Japan Holdings Co., Ltd, value_usd uses the Level 1 (quoted market price) fair value disclosed in the 10-Q ($2,161 million) rather than the lower equity-method carrying amount ($658 million), because the entity is publicly traded and the fair value better represents market value; the equity-method carrying amount is materially lower because equity method accounting does not mark to market. For Grand Foods Holding, which is private, only the carrying amount is available and is used as value_usd.
- As of 30 June 2026 the aggregate carrying amount of the Company's equity method investees exceeded its proportionate share of those investees' net assets by $1.4 billion (per the 10-Q); this basis difference is not amortized.
- Register institutional rows are all sourced from each manager's own Form 13F-HR filed on EDGAR, not from aggregators. Vanguard's most recent 13F-HR on file (CIK 0000102909) is for the quarter ended 31 December 2025; Vanguard filed Form 13F-NT (notice only) for the quarters ended 31 March 2026 and 30 June 2026, so a more current Vanguard figure was not available under that CIK, mirroring the same gap found in this project's Broadcom research.
- Proxy-disclosed 5%+ owner figures are stale relative to the 13F register and are recorded here only as a cross-check, not as register rows: the 7 April 2026 DEF 14A cites Vanguard at 71,635,329 shares (10.03%) sourced to a Schedule 13G/A, BlackRock at 51,974,467 shares (7.3%) sourced to a Schedule 13G/A filed 26 January 2024 (data as of 31 December 2023), and State Street at 35,988,736 shares (5.1%) sourced to a Schedule 13G/A filed 9 February 2026 (data as of 31 December 2025). These differ from the corresponding 13F figures used in the register because 13G filings measure beneficial ownership under a different standard and are refreshed less often.
- McDonald's has a single class of common stock, one vote per share; no dual-class structure or founder control block exists. Chris Kempczinski holds both the Chairman and CEO titles but his beneficial ownership (0.12% of shares outstanding) carries no special voting rights.
- Shares outstanding used for company.shares_outstanding and for all 30 June 2026 dated register rows is 707,641,531, from the Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover page (measured as of 30 June 2026). The Vanguard row (dated 31 December 2025) and all insider rows (dated 1 March 2026, the proxy's measurement date) instead use 710,398,642, the shares-outstanding figure from the FY2025 10-K cover page (measured as of 31 January 2026), as the closest disclosed denominator to those dates.
- Insider rows overlap. 'All Directors and executive officers as a group (23 persons)' (1,838,732 shares, 0.26%) contains the five individually listed named executive officers above and must not be summed with them. The proxy does not separately itemize the ownership of directors who are not also named executive officers, so those individuals are represented only inside the aggregate row (residual_label: 'Other directors and non-named-executive officers').
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Market capitalization and its as-of date: not sourced in this task (no market data page was fetched), so company.market_cap_usd and market_cap_as_of are null rather than estimated.
- The exact composition and sizing of the roughly $104 million of 'Investments in affiliates' not attributable to Grand Foods Holding or McDonald's Japan Holdings. The 10-Q describes only 'a limited number of foreign markets (primarily China and Japan)' using affiliate arrangements and does not name or size any others.
- The Tokyo Stock Exchange ticker symbol for McDonald's Japan Holdings Co., Ltd was not independently confirmed against a fetched source within the time budget, so holdings[1].target_ticker is left null rather than guessed.
- Any equity or ownership interest McDonald's may hold in private AI, supply chain, or technology partners: not searched in this task given the time budget; the 10-Q and 10-K equity-method footnote covers only the two named affiliate-market joint ventures.
- Capital Research/Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, and Norges Bank positions in MCD: not sourced in this task. Given the Broadcom research already found no usable 13F-HR filer CIKs for Capital Research/T. Rowe Price within a similar time budget, and Norges Bank does not file Form 13F, these were not attempted here to stay within the call budget; they are a gap, not a finding of zero ownership.
- Whether any Schedule 13D or 13G/A (beyond the ones already cited from the proxy) has been filed on MCD more recently than the proxy's cited dates: EDGAR's SC 13G/A filing list for CIK 0000063908 was not individually checked filing-by-filing in this task.
