The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,219 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,219 managers reported a position, together holding 377.7m shares, or 81.9% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Linde plc files Forms 10-K and 10-Q as a domestic filer (not Form 20-F), confirmed from the EDGAR submissions JSON for CIK 0001707925: 9 recent 10-K filings and 25 recent 10-Q filings, no 20-F of any vintage. Linde is Irish-domiciled (Ireland incorporation, per the 10-K cover) and dual-listed (Nasdaq under LIN; also listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange), but it reports to the SEC as a large accelerated U.S. domestic filer, so basis 'filed_10q_10k' is used throughout rather than 'filed_20f'.
- Shares outstanding of 460,980,163 is the ordinary shares outstanding figure stated on the cover page of the Q2 FY2026 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 31 July 2026): 'At June 30, 2026, 460,980,163 ordinary shares (EUR 0.001 par value) of the Registrant were outstanding.' This differs from the 490,766,972 ordinary shares 'issued' shown on the balance sheet, because the balance sheet issued-share count is gross of treasury shares held by Linde itself; the cover-page figure nets those out and is the correct denominator for ownership percentages.
- Holdings is empty and that is the sourced finding, not a gap. The FY2025 10-K (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 25 February 2026) and the Q2 FY2026 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 31 July 2026) were both fetched and searched for 'equity method', 'investments in affiliates', 'unconsolidated', 'joint venture', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative' and 'equity in earnings'. The 10-K balance sheet carries a single combined line 'Equity investments: $2,015 million (2025), $2,130 million (2024)', covering all of Linde's approximately 20-to-50-percent-owned regional gas joint ventures collectively (per Note 1: 'Equity investments generally consist of 20% to 50% owned operations where the company exercises significant influence, but does not have control'). No note, exhibit, or the DEF 14A proxy breaks this balance out by named investee or discloses individual ownership percentages, so per the brief this combined figure is recorded here in notes/unknowns rather than distributed across invented holding rows.
- The Q2 FY2026 10-Q does not report 'Equity investments' as its own balance-sheet line at all: it folds the FY2025 10-K's 'Equity investments' ($2,015 million) and 'Other long-term assets' ($3,419 million) into one combined 'Other long-term assets' line ($5,434 million at 31 Dec 2025, reconciling exactly to 2,015+3,419), so the most recent distinctly-reported equity-investments balance remains the 31 December 2025 10-K figure.
- Exhibit 21.01 to the FY2025 10-K (list of Linde subsidiaries) was checked for named, percentage-owned joint ventures; it lists only fully consolidated subsidiaries by legal name and place of incorporation, with no ownership percentages shown for any entity, so it does not identify the equity-method affiliates either.
- The only recent quantified minority-stake disclosure found was historical: prior to a 5 January 2023 acquisition, Linde held a 23% interest in nexAir, LLC (US gas distribution), which it then increased to 100% ownership. nexAir is now a wholly owned, consolidated subsidiary and is excluded from holdings under the brief's rule on wholly owned subsidiaries.
- Register percentages use two different share-outstanding denominators depending on the source date: 460,980,163 (Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover, 30 June 2026) for all rows dated 30 June 2026, and 463,394,156 (FY2025 10-K cover, 31 January 2026) for the Vanguard 13F row (period 31 December 2025) and the two proxy-statement rows (Capital Group and the insider group), matching the denominator each respective source itself uses or is closest in time to.
- The 30 June 2026 13F rows imply a per-share mark of approximately $519 to $520 across BlackRock, State Street, Geode, FMR, Morgan Stanley and Norges Bank, with JPMorgan implying about $511; this spread is a normal artifact of intra-quarter valuation timing across a manager's sub-accounts, not a data error.
- Vanguard filed Form 13F-HR for the quarter ended 31 December 2025 (CIK 0000102909); no more recent Vanguard 13F-HR for Linde was checked within the time budget, so the Vanguard row is one quarter staler than the other institutional rows.
- Capital Group's 5.01% stake is sourced from Linde's own DEF 14A proxy (filed 29 April 2026), which in turn cites a Capital Group filing under the Irish Companies Act 2014 dated 27 March 2026, not an SEC Schedule 13G/13F; no EDGAR 13F filing under a Capital Group entity CIK was searched for within the time budget, so this row could not be cross-checked against a primary SEC filing.
- Market capitalization of $222.53 billion (share price $482.74) is as published by stockanalysis.com as of 14 August 2026 market close. Cross-check: 460,980,163 shares x $482.74 implies approximately $222.55 billion, consistent to three significant figures.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Per-investee identity, ownership percentage, and carrying value for Linde's equity-method regional gas joint ventures. Searched the FY2025 10-K (full text) and Q2 FY2026 10-Q (full text) for 'equity method', 'joint venture', 'affiliate', 'unconsolidated', 'non-marketable' and 'measurement alternative'; also searched the FY2025 10-K's Exhibit 21.01 subsidiaries list and the April 2026 DEF 14A proxy for named investees or percentages. Only the combined balance-sheet figure ($2,015 million at 31 Dec 2025) was found; no filing splits it by counterparty.
- Whether Linde holds any equity or ownership interest in private industrial-gas or clean-hydrogen joint ventures announced since the Q2 FY2026 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 31 July 2026); the Q3 FY2026 10-Q was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0001707925.
- A current 13F-HR position for The Capital Group Companies, Inc. (or its constituent SEC-registered investment-adviser entities) on Linde. Not searched for a specific CIK within the time budget; the Capital Group row here instead relies on Linde's own proxy statement citing Capital Group's Irish-law disclosure.
- A more recent (post 31 December 2025) Vanguard Group 13F-HR position on Linde. Only CIK 0000102909's latest 13F-HR (period 31 December 2025) was checked; whether Vanguard filed a 13F-NT (notice) for the March or June 2026 quarters, as it did for Broadcom in the same period, was not checked for Linde.
- Whether any other sovereign wealth fund, aside from Norges Bank, holds a Schedule 13F-reportable or 13G-reportable position in Linde. Only Norges Bank was checked given Linde's large European shareholder base flagged in the task; other funds (e.g., GIC, QIA, ADIA) were not searched.
- Exact per-share dollar value implied by the Capital Group and insider-group proxy rows; the proxy discloses share counts and percentages only, with no dollar value stated, so value_usd is left null for those two rows rather than modelled.
- Whether Linde's Frankfurt Stock Exchange listing carries any German BaFin voting-rights notifications (Stimmrechtsmitteilungen) that would surface additional >3% holders not visible via SEC filings; not searched, as it falls outside EDGAR.
