The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,280 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,280 managers reported a position, together holding 1.06bn shares, or 85.4% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Gilead files its own Form 13F-HR as an institutional investment manager (CIK 0000882095, co-filed with Gilead Therapeutics A1 Unlimited Co, CIK 0002055207), the same unusual pattern seen at Merck. The filing for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (filed 3 August 2026) lists exactly 5 positions totaling 1,648,747,919 dollars: Arcus Biosciences, Assembly Biosciences, Lakefront Biotherapeutics NV (formerly Galapagos NV), Kyverna Therapeutics, and Xilio Therapeutics. These values cross-validate closely against the Q2 2026 10-Q equity-securities note (Arcus: 969 million per the 10-Q versus 968.8 million per the 13F; Lakefront: 500 million per the 10-Q versus 500.2 million per the 13F, both stated in millions on the 10-Q), giving strong confidence in both filings.
- Galapagos NV renamed itself Lakefront Biotherapeutics NV effective 8 May 2026, alongside exiting its oncology cell-therapy operations and reshaping its pipeline around the Gilead-Ouro Medicines autoimmune-disease collaboration; Gilead acquired Ouro Medicines in 2026 and shares the upfront payment and contingent milestones equally with Lakefront. New CIK is 0001421876, ticker LKFT.
- pct_of_target for Arcus (approximately 30%), Assembly (approximately 29%), and Lakefront/Galapagos (approximately 25.8%) are each sourced to language in Gilead's FY2025 Form 10-K (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 24 February 2026), and each is explicitly pinned by the filing itself to 'the time of our latest purchase of shares' rather than to 30 June 2026. Share counts for each match the later 13F almost exactly, but each investee's own total share count may have grown since via that company's own capital raises, which would mechanically dilute Gilead's true current ownership percentage below the stated figure. Treat these three percentages as approximate and dated, not as of 30 June 2026.
- Kyverna's 9.6 percent figure is from a Schedule 13G Gilead filed 20 February 2024 reporting 4,126,119 shares. The identical share count appears on the 30 June 2026 13F, confirming the position size is unchanged, but the percentage is a two-year-old measurement against Kyverna's 2024 share count and was not re-derived against a current Kyverna share count.
- Xilio: a Schedule 13G Gilead filed 5 April 2024 reported 7,345,473 shares (19.9 percent). The 30 June 2026 13F reports only 650,389 shares, roughly a tenfold reduction. This could reflect a large share sale by Gilead, a Xilio reverse stock split, or both; it was not resolved within the time budget, so pct_of_target for Xilio is recorded as null rather than reusing the stale 19.9 percent figure.
- A Schedule 13G Gilead filed 19 April 2024 (accession 0001193125-24-102955) disclosed a 13.9 percent stake (5,319,148 shares) in Leap Therapeutics, Inc. (CUSIP 52187K101). Leap Therapeutics does not appear on Gilead's 30 June 2026 13F, indicating Gilead has since reduced or exited the position. It is not recorded as a current holding here because the only available source is over two years stale and no disposal filing was located.
- Register: Vanguard's most recent Form 13F-HR is for the quarter ended 31 December 2025 (accession 0000102909-26-000031). Vanguard filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings detail) for the March and June 2026 quarters under this CIK, the same pattern documented in the Broadcom and Merck research files, so Vanguard's register row here is one quarter older than the other six institutional rows (all quarter ended 30 June 2026).
- Register disagreement, recorded rather than resolved. Gilead's own DEF 14A proxy (filed 20 March 2026, ownership table dated 28 February 2026) reports Vanguard at 111,820,711 shares (9.01%) sourced to a Schedule 13G/A filed 13 February 2024, and BlackRock at 101,739,273 shares (8.20%) sourced to a Schedule 13G/A filed 24 April 2025, both materially lower and staler than the Form 13F-HR figures used in the register above (Vanguard 121,097,336 shares as of 31 December 2025; BlackRock 121,844,108 shares as of 30 June 2026). FMR's proxy figure (65,539,477 shares, 5.28%, sourced to a Schedule 13G) is close to but not identical to its own 30 June 2026 13F figure (66,870,816 shares) used above.
- Gilead has a single class of common stock, $0.001 par value, one vote per share. There is no dual-class structure or founder-control block. Chairman and CEO Daniel P. O'Day holds 1,968,853 shares (about 0.16 percent); the proxy marks this and the 13-person officer/director group total as each being less than 1 percent.
- Market capitalization ($171.56bn, 14 August 2026) is from an aggregator (stockanalysis.com) and was not independently cross-derived from shares outstanding times a filed price within this task; it implies a share price of about $138.36 on that date.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- pct_of_target for Kyverna and Xilio as of the actual 30 June 2026 13F measurement date. Only stale 2024 Schedule 13G percentages exist for either, and for Xilio the share count has changed so much since 2024 (7,345,473 versus 650,389) that the old percentage cannot reasonably be reused.
- Whether the 10-Q/10-K 'Other equity method investments – fair value option' line ($171 million at 30 June 2026, $183 million at 31 December 2025) contains only Assembly and Kyverna or additional unnamed positions. The filings name only Assembly explicitly (footnote 1 to the equity securities note); the remainder is described only as 'collaboration partners and investment funds' without naming Kyverna specifically.
- The collaboration or transaction that gave Gilead its Kyverna Therapeutics equity stake: not named in any Gilead 10-K, 10-Q, or the 20 February 2024 Schedule 13G text searched.
- Whether Gilead has fully exited Leap Therapeutics (a 13.9 percent stake per an April 2024 Schedule 13G). It is absent from the 30 June 2026 13F, but no disposal filing (13G/A or 13D/A reporting a reduced or zero position) was located within the time budget.
- Gilead's Q3 FY2026 10-Q (period on or about 30 September 2026) was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 per the EDGAR submissions feed, so any equity position taken or changed during that quarter is not reflected here.
- Capital Research/Capital Group, T. Rowe Price and Norges Bank positions in Gilead were not checked; only the seven institutional 13F filers named in the brief were pulled, plus the proxy-disclosed insiders.
- A precise, non-aggregator market capitalization and share price for 17 August 2026 itself: only a 14 August 2026 aggregator figure (stockanalysis.com, $171.56bn) was found within the time budget.
