The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 4,708 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
4,708 managers reported a position, together holding 2.74bn shares, or 66.5% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- ExxonMobil restructured on 1 July 2026: Exxon Mobil Corporation (a New Jersey corporation, CIK 0000034088) redomiciled into Texas by merging into a new holding company, ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation (CIK 0002115436), on a 1-for-1 share exchange. EMHC is now the publicly traded parent and continues to trade as XOM on the NYSE. Because the reorganization closed only weeks before the Q2 2026 10-Q, that 10-Q and the 13F register period (31 Mar 2026) still carry EMC's legacy CIK 0000034088 in their EDGAR URLs even though the company field here uses the new CIK the task specified (0002115436). Both CIKs point to the same operating company.
- shares_outstanding (4,111,911,960 as of 30 Jun 2026) is taken from the Q2 2026 10-Q cover page, the most recent practicable figure. The 13F register (period 31 Mar 2026) predates that by one quarter; register pct_of_company figures in this file use the Q1 2026 10-Q cover-page count instead (4,144,947,162 as of the 10-Q's practicable date in early May 2026), which is the correct denominator for that quarter's 13F snapshot rather than the later 30 Jun figure.
- Register value_usd figures were copied unchanged from the pre-existing 13F register at data/registers/XOM.json (period 31-MAR-2026); they reflect Exxon's roughly $169.66 close near that quarter end, not the 14 Aug 2026 price used for market_cap_usd and the Imperial Oil holding. Do not compare register value_usd figures against company.market_cap_as_of.
- ExxonMobil has no founder or dual-class structure and no controlling shareholder. The 2026 DEF 14A states plainly that none of the named executive officers or non-employee directors owns more than 0.01% of outstanding shares; there is no aggregate 'directors and executive officers as a group' line in the proxy at all (unlike Walmart's or Microsoft's proxies), so no is_aggregate/rolls_up_into marking is needed or included. D.W. Woods (CEO) is included as the single largest individual insider holding for texture; the other four named executives (10,050 to 232,905 shares each) and eleven non-employee directors (10,839 to 61,292 shares each) are each smaller and immaterial, summing to roughly 0.03% of the company combined, so they are omitted from the register rather than padding it with negligible rows.
- Vanguard, BlackRock and State Street are also the only holders the 2026 proxy identifies as beneficial owners of more than 5% of outstanding shares (as of 10 Mar 2026, based on Schedule 13G/A filings), which cross-checks against their position in the 13F register used here.
- A Schedule 13D chain (originally filed 29 Apr 2022 by ExxonMobil Renewables LLC, later joined by Pioneer Natural Resources entities after ExxonMobil acquired Pioneer in May 2024) reported a warrant and share position in Global Clean Energy Holdings, Inc. (GCEH), a renewable-diesel feedstock company. That position is NOT included as a holding: per a web search of GCEH's own SEC filings, all ExxonMobil-held warrants in GCEH and its SusOils subsidiary were cancelled under a settlement agreement dated 25 Jun 2024, and GCEH itself filed Chapter 11 in April 2025, emerged in August 2025 as a private LLC (Grapevine Energy Holdings, LLC) with all pre-petition equity interests, including any Exxon shares, cancelled. No page confirming Exxon's exact pre-cancellation share count in the final amendment was fetched in this task, so this is recorded as a note rather than a sized holding.
- Checked for other named minority equity stakes in the FY2025 10-K (searched for 'equity method investment', 'non-marketable equity', 'minority interest', 'strategic investment', 'equity interest in'): the 10-K discusses 'equity companies' only in aggregate, undifferentiated reserve and production tables (oil and gas joint ventures such as Kearl and various LNG ventures), and never names an individual investee with a size or percentage other than Imperial Oil. No other material, separately identifiable equity stake was found in the filings fetched.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Exact current ExxonMobil Renewables LLC / Pioneer Natural Resources share count in Global Clean Energy Holdings before its warrants were cancelled and the company went through Chapter 11. Looked in the Schedule 13D and its four amendments (2022 to 2024) under CIK 34088; the position appears to be void as of 2025 per GCEH's own bankruptcy filings, but the precise final pre-cancellation figure was not fetched.
- Whether ExxonMobil retains any residual claim or new equity in the reorganized Grapevine Energy Holdings, LLC (GCEH's post-bankruptcy successor). Not searched beyond a single web search; GCEH's Chapter 11 plan and any creditor equity distribution were not fetched as filings.
- A precise, single as-of date and share count reconciling company.shares_outstanding on the same day as the 13F register period; the register in this file mixes the Q1 2026 10-Q cover-page count for pct_of_company with the Q2 2026 cover-page count for company.shares_outstanding, which is disclosed in notes but not independently resolved to one date.
- Whether any sovereign wealth fund or other strategic holder sits below the 5% proxy-disclosure threshold but above a level worth flagging (e.g. Norges Bank). No Schedule 13G/13D from a sovereign entity was found in ExxonMobil's EDGAR filing history in the period searched.
