The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,168 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,168 managers reported a position, together holding 454.7m shares, or 81.5% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Emerson's fiscal year ends 30 September. The latest 10-K covers FY2025 (period ended 30 Sep 2025, filed 10 Nov 2025). The latest 10-Q covers Q3 FY2026 (period ended 30 Jun 2026, filed 4 Aug 2026), determined from the EDGAR submissions feed (checked 17 Aug 2026) rather than assumed.
- AspenTech: on 12 March 2025 Emerson completed the purchase of all remaining outstanding shares of Aspen Technology, Inc. common stock it did not already own, for approximately $7.2 billion. Per the FY2025 10-K (filed 10 Nov 2025): 'As a result of the transaction, AspenTech is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company.' AspenTech's results are now consolidated into the Control Systems & Software segment. Per the brief, AspenTech is excluded from holdings as a wholly owned operating subsidiary. Prior to the buyout, Emerson's partial stake was 36,307,514 shares (57.4% of AspenTech's then 63,249,719 shares outstanding as of 30 Oct 2024), per Emerson's Schedule 13D/A (Amendment No. 3) filed 5 Nov 2024, which also disclosed Emerson's $240/share buyout proposal letter to AspenTech's board.
- Copeland: Emerson sold a majority stake in its former Climate Technologies business (renamed Copeland) to Blackstone-managed funds on 31 May 2023 for $14.0 billion, retaining a 40 percent non-controlling common equity interest in the standalone joint venture plus a $2.25 billion face-value note receivable. Both were fully sold in August 2024: the 40 percent equity interest to Blackstone-managed funds for $1.5 billion, and the note receivable to Copeland itself for $1.9 billion (per the FY2025 10-K, Note 5 and Note 8, 'EQUITY METHOD INVESTMENT AND NOTE RECEIVABLE'). Emerson holds no residual equity stake in Copeland as of the FY2025 10-K or the Q3 FY2026 10-Q.
- Both the FY2025 10-K and the Q3 FY2026 10-Q were searched (via scripts/filing.py) for 'equity method', 'unconsolidated affiliate', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative', 'joint venture' and 'strategic investment'. The only equity-method item found in either filing is the now fully divested Copeland interest described above; no other named investee, equity-method position, cost-method or measurement-alternative minority stake is disclosed in either filing. The holdings list is therefore empty and that is the sourced finding, not a gap.
- 13F register denominators, kept apart per the brief: BlackRock, State Street, Geode, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan and FMR rows are all for the quarter ended 30 Jun 2026 and use 557,800,000 shares outstanding from the Q3 FY2026 10-Q cover (as of 30 Jun 2026, filed 4 Aug 2026). The Vanguard row is for the quarter ended 31 Dec 2025 (Vanguard's own CIK 0000102909 filed Form 13F-NT, a notice only, for the quarters ended 31 Mar 2026 and 30 Jun 2026, so no more recent Vanguard share count is available under this CIK) and uses 562,000,000 shares outstanding from the 10-Q cover as of 31 Dec 2025 (filed 3 Feb 2026). The insider rows use the DEF 14A's own denominator of 562,302,093 shares as of the 25 Nov 2025 record date; the proxy's ownership table itself is dated 30 Sep 2025, a small mismatch inherent to the filing.
- Proxy disagreement, recorded rather than resolved. The DEF 14A filed 12 Dec 2025 (for the 2026 annual meeting) lists 'Ownership of Greater than 5% Shareholders' using stale Schedule 13G/A data: The Vanguard Group at 52,218,224 shares (9.2%, per a 13 Feb 2024 13G/A as of 29 Dec 2023) and BlackRock, Inc. at 37,142,896 shares (6.5%, per a 29 Jan 2024 13G/A as of 31 Dec 2023). The register above instead uses each manager's own, more recent Form 13F-HR figures (Vanguard as of 31 Dec 2025, BlackRock as of 30 Jun 2026).
- The market capitalisation of $91.02 billion is the figure published by stockanalysis.com as of 14 Aug 2026, at a closing price of $163.17. Cross-check: 557,800,000 shares x $163.17 implies approximately $91.02 billion, consistent.
- Emerson has a single class of common stock, $0.50 par value, one vote per share, per the 10-Q cover page. No dual-class structure and no founder control block; the largest insider position (CEO Karsanbhai) is well under 0.1% of shares outstanding.
- Insider rows overlap. 'All Directors and Executive Officers as a group (18 persons)' (1,297,097 shares) contains the individually listed insiders above (Karsanbhai, Krishnan, Baughman) plus other named Directors and NEOs (Baughman's fellow NEOs Train and Tang, and Directors Blinn, Bolten, Butler, Craighead, Flach, Lee, Levatich, McKelvey, Turley) not individually included in this register, and must not be summed with the three rows above; it is marked as an aggregate with residual_label accordingly.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether Emerson holds any private-company minority equity stake (venture-style investment) anywhere in its books. Searched the FY2025 10-K and Q3 FY2026 10-Q for 'equity method', 'unconsolidated affiliate', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative', 'joint venture' and 'strategic investment'; found only the now fully divested Copeland interest. No non-marketable equity securities line item or private strategic investment is disclosed in either filing.
- Emerson's Q4 FY2026 10-Q / FY2026 10-K (period ending on or about 30 Sep 2026) was not yet filed as of 17 Aug 2026 (checked against the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000032604). Any equity position taken or resized during Q4 FY2026 would not yet be visible.
- No sovereign wealth fund position (e.g. Norges Bank, GIC, Temasek) could be sourced within the time budget; such holders typically do not file Form 13F.
- Capital Group / Capital Research, T. Rowe Price and Norges Bank Investment Management 13F or 13G positions were not looked up individually; only the seven managers named in the brief (Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street, Geode, FMR, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan) plus the proxy's insider disclosures were pulled for the register.
- Exact per-share values for the individual insider rows (Karsanbhai, Krishnan, Baughman, and the officer/director group) are not disclosed in the proxy in dollar terms, only share counts; value_usd is left null for these rows rather than estimated from a market price at a different date.
