The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,551 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,551 managers reported a position, together holding 194.2m shares, or 71.9% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Deere & Company does not file Form 13F as a manager; it is only held, not a holder, so its own 13F filing history was not relevant to this research beyond the register side.
- Deere's only named equity-method investment with a disclosed carrying value is a 50 percent interest in Banco John Deere S.A. (BJD), a Brazilian retail and wholesale financing joint venture with Banco Bradesco. The Q2 FY2026 10-Q (period ended 3 May 2026) carries a table captioned specifically 'carrying value of receivables from and investments in BJD', so the $409 million investment figure is BJD-specific, not a shared bucket.
- That BJD-specific figure sits inside a larger combined balance sheet line. The FY2025 10-K's Note 16 'Other Assets' breaks out a total 'Investments in unconsolidated affiliates' of $510 million at 2 November 2025, versus BJD's own dedicated disclosure of $405 million at the same date (2 November 2025). The roughly $105 million difference belongs to one or more other, unnamed equity-method or cost-method investments that are not individually identified anywhere in the 10-K or 10-Q text searched. Per the brief's rule against distributing a bucket across members, no holding is recorded for this residual amount; it is listed only here and in unknowns.
- In fiscal 2025 Deere also 'acquired the remaining ownership interest of an equity method investment' (10-K cash flow supplement, Note on acquisitions), i.e. it bought out a minority partner and consolidated a venture that was previously equity-method. That investment is now wholly owned and consolidated, so it is not a current holding and is not listed.
- John Deere Capital Corporation and John Deere Financial are wholly owned financing subsidiaries of Deere & Company. They file their own periodic reports with the SEC (JDCC under a separate CIK) but are not independent companies and are excluded from holdings per the brief.
- Register share counts mix quarter-end dates: the four institutional 13F rows dated 30 June 2026 are priced against the 269,937,425 shares outstanding reported on the Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover (3 May 2026), the closest official share count Deere has published; the true 30 June 2026 count was not available from any source checked. The Vanguard and insider rows use 270,445,437 shares, the FY2025 10-K cover count as of 28 November 2025, as the closest available count to their December 2025 as-of dates.
- Vanguard's 8.01 percent / 21,724,420-share figure appears in the February 2026 proxy's 'Greater Than 5% Owners' table, but that figure is itself sourced by Deere to an older Vanguard Schedule 13G, not a current 13F. The register instead uses Vanguard's own most recent Form 13F-HR (quarter ended 31 December 2025: 22,583,185 shares), consistent with how Vanguard's Broadcom position was resolved in this project's Broadcom research file. The proxy's BlackRock figure (17,236,799 shares, 6.36 percent) is likewise older than BlackRock's own 30 June 2026 13F-HR (18,544,770 shares) used here.
- Gates-affiliated Deere ownership, reconciled rather than combined. The Feb 2026 proxy's 'Greater Than 5% Owners' table lists a single 'Cascade Investment' line of 23,689,657 shares (8.74 percent), sourced to a joint Schedule 13D/A that Cascade Investment, L.L.C., William H. Gates III, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust filed together on 22 July 2022. That 2022 filing itself splits the total into two blocks: Cascade L.L.C. held sole voting/dispositive power over 19,771,964 shares, and the Trust held shared voting/dispositive power over 3,917,693 shares. This register lists them as two separate rows because a fresher source exists for only one block: the Trust still files its own Form 13F-HR every quarter (most recently for 30 June 2026: 3,557,378 shares, CIK 0001166559), while Cascade Investment, L.L.C. (CIK 0001052192) stopped filing 13F after Q1 2009 and has filed no 13D/A since 22 July 2022. The Trust's fresher count shows the combined position has moved since 2022; Cascade L.L.C.'s own block cannot currently be confirmed more recently than 22 July 2022.
- Deere has a single class of common stock, $1 par value, one vote per share; no dual-class structure.
- Market capitalisation of $164.35 billion (14 August 2026, stockanalysis.com) cross-checks against 269,937,425 shares at the $608.85 close reported on the same page: implies roughly $164.4 billion, consistent to three significant figures.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The counterparty or counterparties behind the roughly $105 million gap between BJD's own $405 million carrying value and the FY2025 10-K's combined $510 million 'Investments in unconsolidated affiliates' line (both at 2 November 2025). Searched the FY2025 10-K and Q2 FY2026 10-Q full text for 'equity method', 'unconsolidated affiliate', 'joint venture', 'non-marketable' and 'measurement alternative'; no other investee is named.
- Deere's Q3 FY2026 10-Q (quarter ending on or about 2 August 2026) had not been filed as of 17 August 2026, per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000315189 (most recent 10-Q on file is for the period ended 3 May 2026). Any equity position change or new equity investment made in that quarter is not yet visible.
- No exact total shares-outstanding figure as of the 30 December 2025 proxy record date was stated anywhere in the DEF 14A text searched (only individual holder percentages). Used the 28 November 2025 10-K cover count as the nearest proxy for that denominator; this is disclosed in notes and in each affected row's pct_denominator.
- A current, post-2022 share count and market value for Cascade Investment, L.L.C.'s own 19,771,964-share block could not be sourced. Checked EDGAR for a fresher filing from Cascade Investment, L.L.C. (CIK 0001052192): its last Form 13F-HR covers the quarter ended 31 March 2009, and no Schedule 13D/A on Deere common stock has been filed since 22 July 2022 (checked the SC 13D filing index for CIK 0000315189). Schedule 13D also reports shares, not a marked value, so value_usd is left null rather than computed from a share price not itself drawn from the 13D. A fresher figure was found for the related Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust block (CIK 0001166559, current through the 30 June 2026 13F-HR) and is used in that row.
- Whether any other single holder (e.g. Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, Norges Bank) crosses a reportable threshold was not checked beyond the register above; the seven 13F filers named in the task brief plus the proxy's 5%-owner table were the only sources used, within the roughly 15-25 tool call budget.
