The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,838 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,838 managers reported a position, together holding 1.10bn shares, or 85.9% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- CVS Health files its own Form 13F-HR (most recent: period ended 30 June 2026, filed 6 August 2026, accession 0000064803-26-000101), but this is the company's own corporate/treasury investment account, not an institutional-manager account and not the Aetna insurance general account. It totals only $225,165,890 across 21 lines and is overwhelmingly bond ETFs (iShares and Vanguard investment-grade, treasury, high-yield and emerging-market bond funds). The only common-stock line is Prudential Financial Inc, 2,683 shares worth $289,576. Per the brief this is treasury/cash-management style activity, not a strategic stake, and is excluded from holdings; it is recorded here only so the filing is not mistaken for evidence of a strategic position.
- Holdings is empty and that is a sourced finding, not a gap. The Q2 FY2026 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 5 August 2026) and the FY2025 10-K (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 10 February 2026) were both searched for 'equity method', 'equity securities', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative', 'unrealized gain', 'investments in', 'noncontrolling interest', 'joint venture', 'variable interest entit', 'minority interest', 'strategic investment' and 'unconsolidated'. Aetna's insurance investment portfolio does hold equity positions, but every disclosure is a combined balance across many issuers with no investee named: (a) 'Equity securities' carried at fair value through the Level 1/2/3 hierarchy, $424 million at 30 June 2026 versus $333 million at 31 December 2025; (b) a separate 'Equity securities' carrying-value line of $625 million at 30 June 2026 versus $555 million at 31 December 2025, footnoted as 'shares of unlisted companies' for which fair value was not practical to estimate; and (c) an 'Other investments' balance-sheet line of $4,999 million at 30 June 2026 versus $4,572 million at 31 December 2025, described in the 10-K as consisting primarily of private equity and hedge fund limited partnerships (accounted for under the equity method) and privately-placed equity securities (carried under the measurement alternative). None of these three balances is broken out by counterparty in either filing, so per the brief no named holding is recorded and the combined figures are not distributed across any members.
- Direction trap checked and excluded correctly: CVS's 'noncontrolling interests' balance ($197 million at 30 June 2026, $168 million at 31 December 2025 per the 10-K) is explicitly described as 'third party interests in the Company's operating entities', i.e. someone else's stake in a CVS-consolidated entity. It is not a CVS holding in anyone else and does not belong here.
- Oak Street Health, Inc., Signify Health, Inc. and Cordavis are wholly owned subsidiaries of CVS Health and are excluded from holdings by the brief. No minority partner or joint-venture percentage was found disclosed for any of them in the 10-K or 10-Q.
- Register sum check (self-gate): the 7 institutional 13F rows (BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, Geode, FMR, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley) sum to 403,755,615 shares, 31.57 percent of the 1,278,970,369 shares outstanding used as the primary denominator. This mixes two as-of dates (Vanguard is 31 December 2025; the other six are 30 June 2026) and should not be read as a single point-in-time total, but it falls inside the 15 to 55 percent band the brief expects and is not a double count: the Robbins, Joyner and aggregate-group rows are proxy-sourced insiders excluded from this sum, consistent with the overlap-marking rules.
- Vanguard used the same 31 December 2025 13F-HR (accession 0000102909-26-000031) reused across other companies in this project; Vanguard filed 13F-NT (notice only, no holdings) for the quarters ended 31 March and 30 June 2026, so no more current Vanguard figure is available under CIK 0000102909.
- CVS Health has a single class of common stock, one vote per share. There is no dual-class structure and no founder control block. The notable register story is instead Larry M. Robbins, founder and CEO of activist hedge fund Glenview Capital Management, who joined the CVS board in November 2024 and beneficially owns 8,582,951 shares (0.67 percent) through four Glenview-managed funds plus swaps; this is recorded as a strategic holder per the brief's 'strategic at any size' instruction, separate from the ordinary insider rows.
- 13F values are the managers' own reported market values at the stated date, in whole dollars (the post-2023 13F schema reports value in dollars, not thousands). The six 30 June 2026 filings imply a consistent CVS quarter-end mark near $103.45 per share; the 31 December 2025 Vanguard filing implies about $79.36 per share, consistent with a lower CVS share price at that earlier date.
- Market capitalization ($124.26 billion) and the underlying share price are as published on stockanalysis.com for the close of 14 August 2026 (a market-data page, not a filing); shares outstanding used everywhere else in this file comes from CVS's own SEC filings.
- No em dashes are used in any text field per the brief.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The identities and sizes of any individual investees inside Aetna's $625 million non-marketable ('unlisted companies') equity balance, the $424 million marketable equity-securities balance, or the $4,999 million 'other investments' balance (all as of 30 June 2026, per the Q2 FY2026 10-Q). No supporting schedule or note with a per-investee breakdown was found in the 10-Q or the FY2025 10-K.
- Whether CVS/Aetna holds any minority or joint-venture equity interest tied to its value-based-care partnerships, Cordavis biosimilar co-production agreements, or other announced health-services collaborations. Searched the FY2025 10-K and Q2 FY2026 10-Q for 'joint venture', 'unconsolidated', 'minority interest' and 'strategic investment'; none returned a named, sized equity stake outside the wholly owned Oak Street Health and Signify Health subsidiaries.
- CVS's Q3 FY2026 10-Q (covering the quarter ending on or about 30 September 2026) was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 (checked against the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000064803), so any change in the equity-securities, non-marketable-equity or other-investments balances since 30 June 2026 is not visible.
- No Schedule 13D or 13G/A on CVS Health common stock was checked beyond the Glenview Capital Management search (CIK 0001138995, which found no CVS filing). A full sweep of all recent 13D/13G filers on CVS was not performed within the time budget, so any other activist or sovereign holder crossing 5 percent since the last 13F round would not appear here.
- State Street's, Geode's, FMR's, JPMorgan's and Morgan Stanley's individual 13F line-item counts were not separately reconciled to any Schedule 13G, since none was checked for a recent 13G/A on CVS; only each manager's own 13F-HR is used.
- The precise legal name and CUSIP-level detail of the two JPMorgan CVS call-option lines (255,000 and 225,000 notional shares) were read from the 13F information table but their counterparty and strategic intent were not researched further; they are excluded from the share count as derivatives per the brief.
