The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,072 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,072 managers reported a position, together holding 351.0m shares, or 91.0% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Chubb Limited is Swiss domiciled (Zurich) but files as a US domestic registrant on Forms 10-K, 10-Q and DEF 14A, not Form 20-F. Confirmed against the EDGAR submissions JSON for CIK 0000896159, checked 17 Aug 2026: the filing history contains 10-K, 10-Q and DEF 14A filings on a normal US quarterly and annual cadence and no 20-F of any vintage.
- Share count basis: Chubb's Common Shares carry CHF 0.50 par value. The Q2 2026 10-Q balance sheet shows 400,120,847 shares issued and 385,634,049 shares outstanding at 30 Jun 2026 (versus 412,107,421 issued and 391,101,227 outstanding at 31 Dec 2025), the difference being 14,486,798 shares held in treasury at 30 Jun 2026. This file uses the 10-Q cover page figure of 385,799,859 Common Shares outstanding as of 20 Jul 2026 for shares_outstanding and as the register's pct_of_company denominator, which is a few days newer than the balance sheet date. Chubb's 2026 proxy separately states 388,489,214 Common Shares outstanding as of its 27 Mar 2026 record date, an older and larger figure due to share buybacks between March and July 2026; proxy-sourced register rows (the two insider rows) are measured against the same 385,799,859 denominator as everything else here for consistency, not against the proxy's own 388,489,214, so treat those two insider percentages as very slightly understated versus what the proxy itself would compute.
- Chubb has held a majority, consolidated stake in Huatai Insurance Group since 1 Jul 2023 (87.2 percent at 31 Dec 2025, up from 85.5 percent at 31 Dec 2024). This is disclosed in the 10-K as full consolidation, not the equity method: Chubb discontinued equity method accounting precisely because it crossed into a controlling interest on 1 Jul 2023. Huatai is therefore NOT a wholly owned subsidiary (about 12.8 percent is held by others, reflected as noncontrolling interests) and is recorded here as a holding per the brief's instruction to size and classify it, even though it sits on Chubb's balance sheet as a consolidated business rather than as a separately valued equity security.
- Chubb's investment portfolio contains a very large 'Private equities and other' balance, 19,897 million USD fair value at 31 Dec 2025 (17,101 million USD at 31 Dec 2024), of which 17,239 million USD (14,769 million USD at 31 Dec 2024) is measured using net asset value (NAV) as a practical expedient, meaning it is fund-of-funds style exposure with no per-investee breakdown available in the 10-K. This is exactly the combined balance the brief warns about: it covers many unnamed investees and none of them can be sized individually from it, so it is not represented as a holdings row (aside from the specifically named Aquiline Funds, which the 10-K does break out with its own dollar figure). Total mark-to-market gain on private equities was 809 million USD pre-tax in 2025.
- Chubb Ltd itself filed Form 13F-HR (as an institutional investment manager reporting its own 13(f) securities, signed by its Chief Accounting Officer, not on behalf of client accounts) every quarter from at least 2018 through the filing made 3 Feb 2023 (covering the quarter ended 31 Dec 2022). No 13F-HR of any kind appears for Chubb after that date through 17 Aug 2026 per the EDGAR submissions feed. This means Chubb's own listed-equity portfolio, to the extent it still holds one, is no longer independently observable via 13F; the 10-K's investment note is the only current window into it, and it does not itemise individual public equity names.
- Vanguard Group filed Form 13F-NT (a notice, not a holdings table) for the quarters ended 31 Mar 2026 and 30 Jun 2026, the same pattern seen when researching Broadcom. Its Chubb row is therefore sourced to its last full 13F-HR, for the quarter ended 31 Dec 2025, filed 29 Jan 2026, and is one quarter staler than the other institutional rows in this register.
- JPMorgan's 30 Jun 2026 13F also reports two Chubb call option lines (CUSIPs H1467J904 and H1467J954, 25,000 and 21,000 notional shares respectively) which are excluded from the share and value totals above, consistent with the brief's exclusion of derivatives.
- The register's percentages sum to roughly 38.7 percent across the eight institutional rows and one insider aggregate row (the individual Greenberg row rolls into, and must not be added to, the aggregate insider row), which is a normal partial register, not a completeness claim.
- No em dashes are used in this file's text fields.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Why Chubb Ltd stopped filing Form 13F-HR after the filing made 3 Feb 2023. The EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000896159 shows no 13F-HR, 13F-NT or 13F-HR/A since then. Checked only the submissions JSON within the time budget; no explanation (deregistration, fell below the 13(f) list threshold, or filing under a different manager CIK) was found.
- The precise percentage ownership interest Chubb holds in Aquiline Funds is not disclosed beyond 'more than 3 percent', so pct_of_target is left null on that holding rather than estimated.
- A per-investee breakdown of the 17,239 million USD (31 Dec 2025) NAV-measured private equities balance was searched for in the FY2025 10-K under 'equity method', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative' and 'investments in partially owned' and none was found; 'non-marketable' and 'measurement alternative' produced zero hits in the filing's text.
- Chubb's Q3 2026 10-Q (covering the quarter ending on or about 30 Sep 2026) was not yet filed as of 17 Aug 2026 per the EDGAR submissions feed, so any change in Huatai ownership percentage or investment balances during Q3 2026 is not reflected here.
- Sovereign wealth fund or other 13D/13G holders of Chubb below the register's top eight were not searched beyond the Schedule 13G/A filings already cited for Berkshire; the EDGAR filing index shows several older Schedule 13G/A filings (2019 to 2024) from other filers that were not individually opened within the time budget.
- Vanguard's current (30 Jun 2026 period) Chubb position could not be sourced because Vanguard filed Form 13F-NT rather than 13F-HR for that quarter under CIK 0000102909; the correct alternate Vanguard reporting-manager CIK for that period was not identified.
