The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,482 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,482 managers reported a position, together holding 1.61bn shares, or 78.7% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Bristol-Myers Squibb does not file Form 13F. Its EDGAR filing history under CIK 0000014272 was checked in full: the 1,013 most recent submissions (13 March 2019 to 7 August 2026) contain zero 13F-HR filings of any vintage, and the older archive file (2,000 filings, 15 March 1994 to 25 January 2006) contains zero as well, consistent with BMS not acting as an institutional investment manager.
- Holdings is empty and that is the sourced finding, not a gap. The Q2 FY2026 Form 10-Q (period ended 30 June 2026, filed 30 July 2026) and the FY2025 Form 10-K (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 11 February 2026) were both searched in full for 'equity method', 'non-marketable', 'measurement alternative', 'strategic investment', 'equity stake', 'equity interest', 'unrealized gain/loss', 'joint venture' and 'minority interest'. Neither filing discloses any individually named, sized equity stake in another company.
- BMS does carry a combined 'Equity Investments' note (Note 14 of the Q2 FY2026 10-Q): Equity investments with readily determinable fair value (RDFV) of $325 million (30 Jun 2026) versus $552 million (31 Dec 2025); Equity investments without RDFV of $810 million versus $806 million; Limited partnerships and other investments of $855 million versus $738 million; Total equity investments of $1,989 million versus $2,096 million. This balance is not broken out by counterparty anywhere in the filing, so per the research brief's rule it sizes none of the underlying investees and is not distributed to any holding row.
- Note 3 (Alliances) of the FY2025 10-K and the Q2 FY2026 10-Q describe numerous licensing and collaboration deals with public and private biotech partners (BioNTech, SystImmune, BioArctic, Evotec, Prothena, Philochem, Zai Lab, Zenas BioPharma and others), structured as upfront fees, opt-in license fees and contingent milestones. None of these disclosures state that BMS received or purchased an equity stake or share count in the partner company; they read as pure licensing/collaboration payments, not equity investments in scope under the brief.
- 2seventy bio, RayzeBio, Karuna Therapeutics and Mirati Therapeutics were acquired outright (2seventy bio: all outstanding shares for $5.00/share, $287 million total consideration, closed 13 May 2025, per the FY2025 10-K) and are wholly owned, so excluded from holdings per the brief.
- A divestiture, not a current holding: in 2026 BMS sold its 60 percent ownership stake in Sino-American Shanghai Squibb Pharmaceuticals, recognizing a $109 million gain (Q2 FY2026 10-Q, Note 4). This was a real equity stake but it no longer exists as of the as_of dates in this file, so it is not recorded as a holding.
- Register: the seven institutional rows use each manager's own Form 13F-HR. Six (BlackRock, State Street, Geode, Morgan Stanley, FMR, JPMorgan) are for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, the most recent filed. Vanguard's most recent 13F-HR is for the quarter ended 31 December 2025; Vanguard (CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings detail) for the quarters ended 31 March 2026 and 30 June 2026, meaning a reporting-entity change has moved current-quarter reporting elsewhere, mirroring the same pattern documented in this database's Broadcom and Merck research files.
- Vanguard disagreement, recorded rather than resolved. BMS's 25 March 2026 proxy reports Vanguard at 198,155,594 shares (9.74%), sourced by the proxy itself to a Schedule 13G/A Vanguard filed 13 February 2024 reporting beneficial ownership as of 31 December 2023, i.e. over two years stale next to Vanguard's own 31 December 2025 Form 13F-HR (198,727,768 shares) used in the register above.
- BlackRock disagreement, recorded rather than resolved. The same proxy reports BlackRock at 143,574,230 shares (7.1%), also sourced to an older Schedule 13G/A rather than BlackRock's own 30 June 2026 Form 13F-HR (180,384,994 shares) used in the register above.
- Percentages are computed by this research against a stated share count, not taken from any filing. The 30 June 2026 13F rows use 2,042,714,656 shares outstanding as of 22 July 2026 (Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover page). Vanguard's 31 December 2025 row uses 2,036,473,705 shares as of 4 February 2026 (FY2025 10-K cover page, the closest available count). The two insider rows use 2,041,735,455 shares, the proxy's own stated count as of 12 March 2026 (its record date).
- BMS has a single class of common stock, $0.10 par value, plus a legacy $2.00 convertible preferred stock (2,510 shares issued and outstanding per the FY2025 10-K, later 2,246 shares per the March 2026 proxy) that is immaterial and not treated as a share class in this file. There is no dual-class structure and no founder-control block: the proxy states explicitly that no director or executive officer, individually or as a group, beneficially owns more than 1 percent of outstanding common or preferred stock.
- Market capitalization ($130.39bn as of 14 August 2026) is from an aggregator (stockanalysis.com) and is rounded; it was not independently cross-derived from a filed share price within this task. The FY2025 10-K cover page separately states an aggregate market value of common equity held by non-affiliates of $94,188,864,457 as of the last business day of the second fiscal quarter of 2025 (30 June 2025), which is a materially older and lower figure not used here.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether BMS holds any non-marketable, private-company equity stake tied to a specific named collaboration partner (BioNTech, SystImmune, BioArctic, Evotec, Prothena, Zai Lab, Zenas BioPharma, etc.). The 10-K and 10-Q disclose only the combined 'Equity Investments' balance-sheet total (Note 14), not an itemized breakdown by counterparty. Searched both filings' Alliances and Equity Investments notes; no per-investee figure was found.
- A full scan of BMS's own EDGAR Schedule 13D/13G filing history (as filer, i.e. BMS taking a stake in another company) was not completed. The SC 13D/A, SC 13G and SC 13G/A entries found under CIK 0000014272 were checked and confirmed to be third-party ownership filings ON Bristol-Myers Squibb stock (BMS as issuer/subject), not BY Bristol-Myers Squibb as filer, so they were not pursued further as a holdings source.
- Capital Research/Capital Group, T. Rowe Price and Norges Bank Investment Management positions in BMY were not individually checked within the time budget; only the seven institutional 13F filers named in the task brief were pulled.
- BMS's Q3 FY2026 10-Q, covering the quarter ending on or about 30 September 2026, was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000014272. Any equity-investment or divestiture activity during that quarter is not reflected here.
- A precise, non-aggregator market capitalization and share price as of 16 to 17 August 2026: only a rounded third-party figure ($130.39bn, 14 Aug 2026) was found within the time budget; no fresher filed price was located.
- Exact executive titles for some proxy-listed individuals (e.g. D. V. Elkins, J. Haller, M.D.) beyond confirming C. Boerner, Ph.D. as Chair and CEO were not independently verified against a company leadership page; the register row uses only the CEO for brevity, per the pattern used in the Broadcom and Merck reference files.
