The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 2,256 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
2,256 managers reported a position, together holding 117.5m shares, or 75.9% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- The 13F exclusion, read this first. BlackRock, Inc. (CIK 0002012383) is the exact filer this database reads for the 'BlackRock, Inc.' row on roughly every other company's register. Its Form 13F-HR for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, filed 7 August 2026, contains 49,968 information table rows. This is overwhelmingly the aggregated holdings of iShares ETFs, index funds, model portfolios and separately managed accounts run for BlackRock's fund investors and institutional clients: it is the purest possible case of the brief's exclusion of index-fund style positions held on behalf of clients. None of those 49,968 rows are converted into holdings here. BlackRock's own holdings are drawn only from its 10-K and 10-Q balance sheet and notes.
- Seed and co-investment capital in BlackRock's own sponsored products is excluded from holdings as a matter of definition, not oversight. The Q2 2026 10-Q states BlackRock's total investment portfolio (excluding CIPs) includes a seed capital hedging program with outstanding futures notional of approximately $1.7 billion at 31 December 2025, and separately discloses 'seed and co-investments in the Company's sponsored investment products' as a category BlackRock explicitly carves out of the 'certain corporate investments' note. A BlackRock-seeded BlackRock ETF or fund is not a stake in another company; it is a stake in BlackRock's own product, so none of that seed or co-investment balance is recorded as a holding.
- Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP, acquired October 2024), HPS Investment Partners (acquired 1 July 2025, substantially all consideration paid in Class B-2 'Subco Units' of BlackRock Saturn Subco, LLC) and Preqin Holding Limited (acquired March 2025 for approximately $3.2 billion cash) were each acquired as 100% of the target's shares or business and assets, per the FY2025 10-K's Acquisitions note. All three, plus ElmTree Funds (100% acquired September 2025), are wholly owned subsidiaries and are excluded from holdings under the brief.
- The one cleanly sized holding is iCapital Network, Inc.: an equity-method minority investment, 21% owned at 30 June 2026 (22% at 31 December 2025), carrying value approximately $0.7 billion (a precise $711 million at 31 December 2025). This is the only named investee BlackRock breaks out individually from its combined investment balances.
- Every other named minority investment (Viridium, Generation Life, Securitize, Upvest, Avaloq, Human Interest, Circle, Clarity AI, Envestnet, Acorns, Scalable Capital) sits inside one of two combined, unsplit balances disclosed in the Q2 2026 10-Q: $1.6 billion of 'corporate equity method investments' (of which iCapital's $0.7bn is the only named piece, leaving roughly $0.9bn unattributed across the remaining equity-method names) and $1.1 billion of 'other non-equity method corporate minority investments' (which includes Circle, now a Level 1 fair-value holding in a publicly traded company, plus unnamed private debt positions). Per the brief's rule that a combined balance covering many investees sizes none of them, every one of these rows is recorded with shares, value and pct all null, and the combined figures are recorded here rather than allocated by guesswork.
- Federal Reserve Bank stock ($88 million at 30 June 2026), CLOs held at fair value ($538 million) and carried interest ($3,594 million, a compensation-linked claim on fund performance fees rather than equity in an operating company) are all disclosed in the same 'Other Assets' investments table but are not equity stakes in another company, so none are recorded as holdings.
- BlackRock appears in its own register via its own Form 13F-HR: 10,137,544 shares (6.54%) at 30 June 2026, worth $9.7 billion at the 13F's own reported values. This is BlackRock funds and separate accounts holding BlackRock stock for clients (heavily index products such as iShares Core S&P Total US Stock Market and iShares Core Dividend Growth), not a corporate treasury or strategic holding; BlackRock disclaims beneficial/economic interest in client assets under management. The company's own 2026 proxy 5% table shows a smaller, staler figure for the same row: 9,580,403 shares (6.17%), sourced to a Schedule 13G/A BlackRock itself filed on 9 February 2024. The register uses the fresher 13F figure.
- PNC Financial Services Group, which once held one of the largest BlackRock stakes, fully exited. PNC's own 15 May 2020 press release confirms it sold 31.6 million shares of BlackRock common and preferred stock in a registered secondary offering at $420/share plus a 2.65 million share repurchase by BlackRock at $414.96/share (total proceeds $14.2 billion, a $4.3 billion gain), and contributed a further 500,000 shares to the PNC Foundation, completing the divestiture. PNC does not appear anywhere in BlackRock's 2026 proxy 5% table or in this research's searches, consistent with no current PNC stake.
- The Kuwait Investment Authority row is the most material sovereign holder found, but it rests on a Schedule 13G filed 7 July 2020 with no amendment since, per BlackRock's own 2026 proxy footnote. It is included because the brief calls for strategic and sovereign holders at any size and because it is the best available disclosure of record, but the 2020 date should be read as a floor on how current the 5.145% figure is, not a 2026 measurement.
- BlackRock has a single class of common stock (plus non-voting Subco Units held by HPS's former owners, convertible into common stock; 7,606,927 Subco Units were outstanding at 30 June 2026, pushing fully diluted shares to 162,476,186 versus 154,869,259 basic shares outstanding at 31 July 2026 per the 10-Q cover page). There is no dual-class voting structure. Insider ownership is small in voting terms: all directors and executive officers as a group held 1.92% at 31 March 2026, and Laurence Fink individually held 0.16% of common stock (excluding a separate CEO Carry Incentive tied to private-markets performance that is not a share count).
- Register percentages are computed by this research against stated share counts, not taken pre-calculated from a filing except where noted. The 30 June 2026 13F rows use 154,996,807 shares outstanding from the Q2 2026 10-Q balance sheet. The 31 December 2025 Vanguard row uses 155,069,171 from the same balance sheet's prior-period column. The proxy-sourced rows (KIA, Fink, the insider group) use 155,364,965 shares outstanding as of 31 March 2026, the denominator the proxy itself states and uses for its own percentages.
- Market capitalisation of $190.7 billion and share price of $1,173.73 are as published by stockanalysis.com as of 14 August 2026, cross-checking to roughly 154.9 million shares outstanding at that price.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The approximately $0.9 billion of the $1.6 billion 'corporate equity method investments' balance not attributable to iCapital, and how it is split across Viridium, Generation Life, Securitize, Upvest, Avaloq, Human Interest, Clarity AI, Acorns and Scalable Capital individually. Looked in the Q2 2026 10-Q's Other Assets note and the FY2025 10-K's equivalent note; neither breaks the remainder out by investee.
- The size of BlackRock's stake in Circle Internet Group, Inc. specifically, within the $1.1 billion 'other non-equity method corporate minority investments' balance. The 10-Q confirms a Level 1 (quoted market price) minority investment in a publicly traded company and gives quarterly mark-to-market gain/loss figures ('approximately $37 million' loss in Q2 2026, 'approximately $330 million' gain in Q2 2025) but never a share count or standalone carrying value.
- Whether BlackRock retains any minority equity in Envestnet post the November 2024 Bain Capital take-private, and if so its size. Sourced only to BlackRock's own 10-K naming Envestnet as a minority investment and to Bain Capital's closing press release naming BlackRock as a minority strategic partner; no share count, percentage or carrying value appears in any BlackRock filing checked.
- Public/private status and any ticker for Generation Life, Clarity AI, Acorns Grow, and Scalable Capital could not be confirmed against a primary source within the time budget; treated as private based on the absence of any listed ticker found and their categorisation in BlackRock's own 10-K, not on a filed confirmation.
- Whether the Kuwait Investment Authority's position has changed since its last Schedule 13G, filed 7 July 2020. Checked BlackRock's 2026 proxy, which relies on that same 2020 filing with no amendment; did not separately search EDGAR full-text search for a more recent KIA 13G/A within the time budget.
- Any Schedule 13D/13G filed on BLK by an activist or strategic holder outside the register listed here. Time budget did not extend to a full EDGAR full-text-search sweep of all 13D/G filings naming BlackRock as subject company; the register instead relies on the six 13F filers named in the brief plus the two names in BlackRock's own proxy 5% table.
