The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 3,087 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
3,087 managers reported a position, together holding 428.0m shares, or 79.2% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Amgen does not file Form 13F. Its complete EDGAR filing history was checked three ways on 17 August 2026: the 'recent' filings feed (1,006 filings, forms list has no 13F-HR or 13F-NT of any kind) plus both older paginated submissions files (CIK0000318154-submissions-001.json covering 2002-2018, and -002.json covering 1994-2002), neither of which contains a 13F form either. This is consistent with Amgen not acting as an institutional investment manager, unlike Merck, which does file its own 13F.
- BeOne Medicines Ltd. (formerly BeiGene, Ltd.) is Amgen's one clearly named, filed, sourced holding: an approximately 17 percent ownership interest with a fair value of 5.4 billion dollars as of 30 June 2026 (5.8 billion dollars as of 31 December 2025), disclosed in Note 6 (Investments) of the Q2 FY2026 Form 10-Q. Amgen recorded an unrealized loss of 357 million dollars on this position for the six months ended 30 June 2026, versus an unrealized gain of 1.1 billion dollars in the same period of 2025. Amgen is contractually restricted from selling more than 5 percent of BeOne's outstanding stock in any rolling 12-month period while it holds at least 5 percent.
- Three combined balances in the same 10-Q Note 6 cover many unnamed investees and are deliberately NOT distributed to individual holdings rows, per the brief: (1) 'Other equity securities' (publicly traded, readily determinable fair value, excluding BeOne): 470 million dollars at 30 June 2026 (389 million at 31 December 2025); (2) equity securities without readily determinable fair values (private-company stakes): 301 million dollars at 30 June 2026 (362 million at 31 December 2025); (3) equity-method limited partnership investments, described as 'primarily investment funds of early-stage biotechnology companies': 330 million dollars at 30 June 2026 (253 million at 31 December 2025). None of these three buckets names a single investee in the 10-Q text searched, so no member of any of them is recorded as a holdings row.
- Vanguard disagreement, recorded rather than resolved, mirroring the same pattern found in Merck's register. The Vanguard Group, Inc. (CIK 0000102909) last filed Form 13F-HR for the quarter ended 31 December 2025 (54,838,826 shares, 10.14 percent). Amgen's own 2026 proxy (period 20 March 2026) does not list The Vanguard Group among its greater-than-5-percent beneficial owners at all. A newly registered entity, Vanguard Capital Management LLC (CIK 0002100119, same Malvern, PA address), then filed a Schedule 13G on 29 April 2026 reporting 40,510,484 shares (7.51 percent) as of 31 March 2026. The register above keeps the older, more complete 13F-HR row as the primary Vanguard entry and records the 13G figure as a separate row rather than overwriting either.
- BlackRock disagreement, recorded rather than resolved. The register's primary BlackRock row uses BlackRock, Inc.'s own Form 13F-HR for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (49,362,016 shares, 9.13 percent). Amgen's proxy separately reports BlackRock at 40,830,830 shares (7.6 percent) as of 20 March 2026, sourced to a Schedule 13G/A, which is both an earlier date and a lower share count than the 13F-HR. Both are recorded as separate rows rather than reconciled.
- Amgen has a single class of common stock. No dual-class structure and no founder-control block. CEO Robert A. Bradway's 1,471,970 shares are the largest individual insider position and represent roughly 0.27 percent of the company; the proxy states no director, NEO or executive officer individually or as a group beneficially owns more than 1 percent.
- Institutional register coverage: the seven Form 13F-HR rows sum to 171,574,145 shares, approximately 31.7 percent of the 540,632,005 shares outstanding used throughout. This is lower than typical because Amgen's float is more retail/other-institution held than a name like Broadcom; the seven filers checked are the ones named in the brief.
- market_cap_usd (224.48 billion dollars, 14 August 2026) is from an aggregator (stockanalysis.com) and is rounded; not cross-derived from shares outstanding times a filed price within this task. A web search on 17 August 2026 found other aggregators quoting 224 to 226 billion dollars for the same week, consistent with normal cross-source variance.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Amgen's actual share count in BeOne Medicines Ltd. The 10-Q states only an approximate 17 percent ownership interest and a fair value; it does not give a share count, so 'shares' on the BeOne holdings row is null rather than backed into from an assumed BeOne share price.
- The individual investees behind the three combined equity-investment balances in Note 6 of the Q2 FY2026 10-Q: 'other equity securities' (470 million dollars), equity securities without readily determinable fair values (301 million dollars), and equity-method limited partnership investments (330 million dollars). The 10-Q full text was searched and none of these buckets names a constituent company; the FY2025 Form 10-K was not separately checked for a more granular breakdown within the time budget.
- Whether Amgen holds any equity position from its other announced collaborations (for example with Kyowa Kirin, or other partnership deals disclosed in 8-Ks) beyond what is captured in the three Note 6 buckets above; not separately searched.
- A precise, non-aggregator market capitalization and share price as of 16 to 17 August 2026: only rounded third-party figures (224 to 226 billion dollars across several aggregators) were found; SEC filings do not carry a market price.
- Capital Research/Capital Group, T. Rowe Price and any sovereign-wealth holders of Amgen were not checked; only the seven institutional 13F filers named in the brief plus the proxy's beneficial-ownership table and two Schedule 13G filings surfaced by the Vanguard/BlackRock reconciliation were pulled.
- No independent check was made for any current Schedule 13D activist filing on Amgen; the EDGAR filing list for CIK 0000318154 was scanned by form type only (one SC 13D dated 2023-09-27 and one SC 13D/A dated 2020-07-16 appear in the list) and neither was opened to determine whether it reflects an activist stake still open today.
