The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 3,048 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
3,048 managers reported a position, together holding 1.37bn shares, or 79.4% of the company. The 40 largest are listed.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Abbott does not file Form 13F. Its EDGAR filing history (submissions JSON for CIK 0000001800, checked 17 August 2026) contains no 13F-HR or 13F-NT of any vintage, consistent with it not acting as an institutional investment manager for others.
- Holdings is empty and that is the sourced finding, not a gap. The FY2025 Form 10-K (period ended 31 December 2025, filed 20 February 2026) was fetched and searched for equity investment language. It discloses three combined equity-investment balances, none broken out by counterparty: (1) investments accounted for under the equity method with a carrying value of $131 million as of 31 December 2025; (2) non-publicly-traded ('Non-Publicly Traded Equity Securities') investments with a carrying value of $124 million, with the filing stating 'no individual investment is recorded at a value in excess of $25 million'; (3) publicly traded equity securities with a readily determinable fair value of approximately $20 million. None of these balances name an investee, so per the brief's rule against distributing a combined bucket across members, no individual holding rows are recorded. These figures are separate from the Abbott Laboratories Stock Retirement Trust and rabbi trust assets, which are plan assets for employee benefits and were excluded per the brief.
- AbbVie Inc. was separated from Abbott via a 2013 spin-off and is an independent, separately covered company in this database. The FY2025 10-K full text contains zero occurrences of 'AbbVie', confirming Abbott discloses no current equity interest in it. Not listed as a holding.
- Abbott has a single class of common stock, without par value, one vote per share. No dual-class structure and no founder control block.
- Register uses each institutional manager's own Form 13F-HR rather than Abbott's proxy statement, because the proxy's 'more than 5 percent' table sources BlackRock and Vanguard to stale Schedule 13G/A filings (BlackRock 26 January 2024: 134,061,311 shares, 7.7 percent; Vanguard: 174,894,079 shares, 10.05 percent, filing date not given in the excerpt fetched). The 13F figures used here are current as of 30 June 2026 for BlackRock, State Street, Geode, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan and FMR, and 31 December 2025 for Vanguard (Vanguard's own CIK 0000102909 had not yet filed a 13F-HR for a 2026 quarter as of this research; its issuer name in that filing is 'ABBOTT LABS', not 'ABBOTT LABORATORIES').
- Two shares-outstanding denominators are in use and are recorded per row: 1,730,383,296 shares as of 30 June 2026 (Q2 FY2026 Form 10-Q cover page, filed 28 July 2026, this is company.shares_outstanding) for the 30 June 2026 13F rows, and 1,737,682,887 shares as of 31 January 2026 (FY2025 Form 10-K cover page) for the Vanguard 13F row and the proxy-sourced insider rows, since those are dated closer to 31 December 2025 and 31 January 2026 respectively.
- Only two Schedule 13D/13G filings of note exist on Abbott in EDGAR's browse index: a run of annual SC 13G/A amendments (most recent 13 February 2024, presumably Vanguard/BlackRock passive-ownership updates) and a single SC 13D/A from 24 March 2017, consistent with the 2017 St. Jude Medical acquisition that produced director David J. Starks's large individual stake. No 13D or 13G newer than February 2024 was found, so no additional strategic or activist holder is recorded beyond the 13F-based institutional rows and the proxy-based insider rows.
- Market capitalisation of $192.51 billion is the figure published by stockanalysis.com as of 14 August 2026; it is an aggregator figure, not a filed one.
- The insider aggregate row ('All directors and executive officers as a group') contains the Ford and Starks rows above; do not sum it with them.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Individual sizing of Abbott's $131 million equity-method investments and $124 million non-publicly-traded equity securities: the FY2025 10-K discloses only the combined balances and states no single non-publicly-traded investment exceeds $25 million; no investee names are given anywhere in the filing. Also checked the Q2 FY2026 10-Q (filed 28 July 2026, period ended 30 June 2026), which repeats the same style of combined disclosure without naming counterparties.
- Whether Vanguard's holdings as of 30 June 2026 differ materially from its 31 December 2025 13F-HR figure used here. Vanguard's CIK 0000102909 had not filed a 13F-HR for a 2026 calendar quarter as of this research (17 August 2026); if it filed a 13F-NT (notice) for intervening quarters, its shares for those quarters would be reported by other Vanguard-affiliated filers not checked here.
- Whether any holder beyond the ten rows above crosses a strategic ownership threshold (for example a sovereign wealth fund or activist). EDGAR's SC 13D/13G browse index for CIK 0000001800 shows nothing filed after 13 February 2024, which is the basis for treating the current register as complete at the top end, but a filer using a name not indexed under Abbott's CIK could exist and was not separately searched.
- Abbott's Q3 FY2026 10-Q was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 (per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000001800), so any equity-investment activity in that quarter is not reflected here.
